Sure, there's Bayern Munich, but one team, as we've said before, does not a league make. Our biggest complaint across the boards for every version, however, is that Konami has lost any semblance of a German League.

Still, we didn't notice any dramatic chokes in the framerate, and at this point, soccer gamers who play Winning Eleven have quietly accepted that it's visually inferior to EA's title.

WE 07's graphics aren't very standard-def friendly, let alone anything that can show off how phenomenal a PS2 game can look on an HDTV. Consistently outshone by EA's rival FIFA franchise, WE has always taken its lumps when it comes to graphics.

#WINNING ELEVEN: PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER 2007 SERIES#
The one weakness that has always plagued the series has been its visuals. As a result, gamers who've played their fair share of Winning Eleven 9 will find themselves prey to some vicious competition, human and computer. Players who use boost too much will find their players quite spent by the seventy-minute point of a game. We've played a few games online in which we managed to keep our defense fortified for long enough to wear out an aggressive soccer noob (read: an American), and we've been completely smoked by players who've worn us out on the pitch (read. Ball control is very tight this time around, and a big part of that is to make up for the adjustments in boost speed. What we've noticed in both console versions of WE 07 is a heavy transformation of AI. For the most part, players who've been tackling, shooting, and setting up formations for the last four years already know how the game handles. Fortunately for PS2 owners, out of every version that the game has released under this year, this current-gen version is hands-down the best one out there. While there isn't too much higher that the game can go on Sony's aging hardware, it's now become a mainstay of the system around most of the Americas. Last year's stellar Winning Eleven 9 marked the debut of online multiplayer for the series. The series makes its fifth North American bow on the PS2 with this installment.

We've played through every single SKU of this year's game, and we've got distinct opinions on each one. Why it was never just Pro Evolution Soccer in the Americas, we'll never know. Probably due to an avoidance of an inevitable Winning Eleven 11, Konami has seen fit to rename the series to reflect both the Japanese and European names. With that in mind, the time has finally come for soccer gamers on the Western Hemisphere to soak in the goodness that is Winning Eleven. Although North America gets a sizable chunk of games before release, this series is not one of them. Japan, of course, gets its installment well before much of the world, but Europe gets Pro Evolution Soccer just in time for the respective seasons to start. Year after year, gamers around the world clamor for the release of the latest in Konami's best-selling soccer series.
